The A1050 Ranger is a guided wave ultrasonic inspection system for rapid corrosion detection.
Description
A compact guided wave ultrasonic inspection system designed for rapid detection of hidden corrosion in pipes and light poles—especially in hard-to-access areas such as under supports. Utilizing dry-point-contact (DPC) transducers, the system requires no couplant and enables efficient field deployment. The scanner performs a full 360° circumferential scan, capturing high-resolution B-scan images that clearly indicate corrosion locations and severity. Its robust, portable design and intuitive data visualization make it ideal for on-site inspections, delivering reliable results with minimal setup time.
- The operator scans the inspection object using a manipulator or manually using two handles and a magnetic ruler
- The instrument collects ultrasonic data at several equidistant measurement positions along the pipe circumference
- The application software reconstructs a B-Scan image in real time, indicating corrosion damage
Application
The inspection task involves the detection of hidden corrosion in metallic structures such as pipelines and light poles, particularly in hard-to-access areas, for example beneath pipe supports. Using guided ultrasonic waves and Dry-Point-Contact (DPC) transducers, the entire circumference of the structure is scanned over 360°. During the inspection, the system acquires multi-channel ultrasonic data at various measurement positions and generates B-scan images using the Synthetic Aperture Focusing Technique (SAFT). This enables users to determine the location and severity of corrosion without having to dismantle the structure or interrupt operation.

Applications of the A1050 Ranger
The A1050 Ranger is a compact guided wave ultrasonic inspection system for rapid detection of hidden corrosion in pipes and light poles.
Corrosion developing under pipe supports and in other hard-to-access areas is a classic inspection challenge, and the A1050 Ranger addresses it by scanning the full 360° circumference with dry-point-contact transducers that require no couplant.
During the scan, the system collects multi-channel ultrasonic data at equidistant measurement positions along the pipe circumference, and the application software reconstructs a high-resolution B-scan image in real time using the Synthetic Aperture Focusing Technique (SAFT).
The resulting images clearly indicate both the location and the severity of corrosion damage, so operators can assess structural condition without dismantling the structure or interrupting its operation.
The operator performs the scan with an adaptive inspection manipulator or manually using two handles and a magnetic ruler, keeping setup time minimal. With its robust portable design and intuitive data visualization, the system is built for efficient on-site deployment by field inspection crews.
