Description
Customized gadget for electro-magnetic acoustic transducers.
The probe holder MT730 is meant for scanning inspection objects by means of EMAT transducers of S73 series. The gadget can be recommended for manual ultrasonic measurement for smooth sliding over the surface of ferromagnetic inspection object while magnetic force attraction caused by permanent magnets in transducer.
The regular application of EMAT is couplant-free thickness measurement. For visualizing thickness profile information, a series of continuous measurements over the region of interest is needed. The S73 holder allows fixing EMAT transducers with a preset air gap for avoiding their mechanical damage.
The probe holder can be used with following transducer types:
- S7392
- S7394

Applications of the MT730
The MT730 is a customized probe holder for electro-magnetic acoustic transducers of the S73 series, meant for scanning inspection objects by means of EMAT transducers; since the regular application of EMAT technology is couplant-free thickness measurement, and visualizing thickness profile information requires a series of continuous measurements over the region of interest, this holder is the gadget that makes such scanning practical and repeatable.
It is recommended for manual ultrasonic measurement with smooth sliding over the surface of a ferromagnetic inspection object, counteracting the magnetic force attraction caused by the permanent magnets in the transducer, which otherwise makes freehand scanning jerky, tiring and inconsistent.
By fixing the EMAT transducer with a preset air gap, the MT730 avoids mechanical damage to the transducer while the operator moves it across the surface, protecting the probe during long scanning sessions and keeping the measurement geometry consistent from one point to the next.
In short, the MT730 turns spot EMAT measurements into a controlled scanning procedure — the operator guides the holder across the region of interest at a steady pace, the transducer stays at a fixed distance from the surface, and the resulting series of readings builds a complete thickness profile of the inspected object.
MT730 key features
- Customized holder designed specifically for scanning inspection objects with electro-magnetic acoustic transducers of the S73 series, rather than single spot checks, enabling efficient area coverage.
- The MT730 enables smooth sliding of the EMAT transducer over the surface of ferromagnetic inspection objects, compensating for the magnetic force attraction caused by the permanent magnets inside the transducer, so the operator can move the probe continuously without it snapping to the surface.
- Fixing the transducer with a preset air gap: the MT730 holds the EMAT probe at a defined distance from the surface, which avoids mechanical damage to the transducer face during scanning and keeps the measurement conditions stable.
- The MT730 is compatible with the transducer types S7392 and S7394 — the standard probes of the S73 series used for EMAT thickness measurements.
- Recommended for manual ultrasonic measurement where a series of continuous measurements over the region of interest is needed to visualize thickness profile information, replacing slow point-by-point probing with fast continuous scanning.
- By keeping the air gap constant while the operator moves the holder, the MT730 helps maintain consistent measurement geometry across the whole scanned area, which is essential for building a reliable thickness profile from the collected data.
- Compact and lightweight gadget (60 x 44 x 53 mm, only 240 g) that is easy to guide by hand during extended scanning sessions on ferromagnetic surfaces, reducing operator fatigue compared with fighting the magnetic pull of a bare transducer held by hand.
